ActoGeniX is developing ActoBiotics which deliver monoclonal anti-TNFalpha antibodies for for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD comprises ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and currently affects 0.5-1% of the Western world’s population. This translates into a steadily growing patient population of over one million patients in the US and four million worldwide. Due to limitations in efficacy of current medications and important safety concerns, there is a clear, unmet need for novel treatments in IBD.
ActoGeniX’s technology is based on a novel, potentially disease-modifying mode of action, and is expected to combine best-in-class efficacy with an attractive safety profile and convenient oral dosing formulation.
Therefore, it has the potential to become a unique and highly valuable new treatment option for IBD patients worldwide.
